Came across a review today in the Texas Observer of a new book by John Bowe, Nobodies: Modern American Slave Labor and the Dark Side of the New Global Economy. "The book focuses on fruit pickers in South Florida; Indian welders in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Asian garment workers and sex slaves in the tiny U.S. commonwealth of Saipan in the Pacific Ocean." If you think slavery is a thing of the past, check out this review and this book. For a taste of what one person can do to right injustice, read the page on slavery in Brits at Their Best.
Michaelann and readers,
ReplyDeleteThis book is available to be borrowed from four branches of the Springfield City Library: East Forest Park, Forest Park, Central, and Mason Square branches. Check the website for a link to the schedule and the catalog. With your library card, you can place a hold on the book to be delivered to your neighborhood branch, if you wish.
Thanks. I haven't had a library card in 20 yrs-- would anything I owed back then still be on record?
ReplyDeleteHi Michaelann, I don't believe it would. Feel free to email me privately at jcanosa
